Mr. Nasiru Ibrahim left Fiji at the beginning of October when he completed his two year assignment as UN Volunteer on Health Statistics. Nasiru hails from Nigeria where he last served with the Kwara State Planning Commission as Senior Statistician before he joined international service as UNV Health Statistician in the Republic of the Marshall Islands from 1995-1997. In October 1998, he came on secondment to the CST Office from the UNFPA Sub-Regional Office to assist in technical work.

During his stint with the CST, he initiated the collation of various population and reproductive health indicators for all 15 UNFPA programme countries of the South Pacific. He was able to develop and install a framework for a common database of regional population, social-economic and reproductive health indicators for UNFPA and other UN agencies in the region.

These common indicators, when further refined, are very relevant to the inter-agency collaboration in preparing Common Country Assessments and developing UN Development Assistance Frameworks for the Pacific island countries to coordinate more effectively the work of the various development agencies under the UN reform process.

Nasiru made many friends in the Marshall Islands and in Fiji. He was a great asset to the UNFPA Country Support Team. His many new found friends at the CST greatly appreciated his dedication and professionalism. We wish him success in his every endeavor!
