The Adviser on Population Statistics visited the South Pacific Commission, Noumea, New Caledonia from 1-9 September, 1997, and attended the 11th Regional Meeting of Heads of Statistics. The agenda included an item on the 2000 Round of Censu ses: Questionnaire Design, Data Processing and Analysis enabling the Adviser to speak on the forthcoming UNFPA/UNSD census meeting, planned to be held in Nadi, 8-12 December.

The Adviser on Population Statistics was in UNFPA Headquarters, New York, on assignment on 11-18 October to the Technical and Evaluation Division to work with technical staff in refining performance indicators for population programmes.

The Adviser on Reproductive Health visited WHO Headquarters in Geneva from 13-17 October for agency consultations and to participate in the technical discussions among WHO Technical Support Services (TSS) Specialists and CST Advisers on reproductive he alth issues.

The Adviser on Reproductive Health/Family Planning-Sexual Health attended a Technical Consultation on Safe Motherhood, held from 18-23 October, in Colombia, Sri Lanka. The main goal of the meeting was to share experiences from the field on successful a pproaches to the reduction of maternal mortality and morbidity within the context of reproductive health. This Tenth Anniversary Meeting of Safe Motherhood was organized by the International Planned Parenthood Federation and co-sponsored by UNFPA.

On 20-24 October, the Adviser on Population Policies and Development Strategies joined TSS colleagues at Headquarters and other CST advisers from the field to participate in agency technical consultations in ILO, Geneva.

On 10-17 November, the Adviser on Population Statistics visited ESCAP, in Bangkok, for agency headquarters consultations. He also attended the meeting of the Working Group of Statistical Experts, Tenth Session, held on 11-14 November.

A regional meeting of the Asia and Pacific Division was held in Islamabad, Pakistan, over the period 15-18 December 1997. Participants included headquarters senior management and staff of the Asia and the Pacific Division, UNFPA Country Representatives , Country Support Team Directors and CST advisers from the three teams based in Bangkok, Kathmandu and Suva. In addition to the UNFPA Representative in Fiji and the CST Director, the Adviser on Population Policies and Development Strategies, Adviser on Po pulation Statistics, Adviser on Reproductive Health/Family Planning-Sexual Health, and the Adviser-designate on Gender/Reproductive Health also attended the meeting.
