Using SEA-AIDSlink

We are delighted to announce that in the first two weeks of operation, the

number of subscribers to the SEA-AIDS services has reached over 150. During

this period two issues of AIDSFlash have been distributed and materials are

being continuously added to the AIDSFiles archives. In the next few days,

you will also see the first messages exchanged among subscribers. This will

mark the start of the third service offered - AIDSLink - providing a forum

through which the people working on HIV/AIDS in the region can exchange

information and follow-up on meetings, conferences and publications or reports.

You can respond to messages received through the network (called postings),

or generate new postings for discussion or information, by sending an e-mail

message to:

sea-aids@lists.inet.co.th

Different types of postings are possible, from short messages to whole

documents, and from policy recommendations to requests for information or

technical assistance. Postings that are not relevant to HIV/AIDS in the

region, and those that promote commercial services, will be excluded.

If you need assistance of any kind please send an e-mail to:

tfran@mozart.inet.co.th

INSTRUCTIONS FOR RETRIEVING FILES

The materials mentioned above are stored in a computer. The computer is

like an electronic filing cabinet - it has drawers and files. You have to

tell it which drawer to open and which file to select. Following each of

the document descriptions above there is a number and a file name given in

brackets e.g., (8.8Kb; news4.txt). The number shows the size of the file

(8.8 kilobytes in this case), and the filename first shows the name of the

drawer (in this instance 'news') and then gives the file number (for this

file it is 4). To obtain a copy of this document you send an e-mail to:

ftpmail@inet.co.th with the following in the text of the message:

open

cd /pub/sea-aids/news

get file news4.txt

Other files can be retrieved using the same general format for your message.

For example:

open

cd /pub/sea-aids/drawername

get file filename

Because these requests are answered automatically by computer, you must be

very careful to copy the format of the message carefully (including spaces

and slashes). If you would like further instructions for retrieving files

in this way, send an e-mail to:

majordomo@lists.inet.co.th

with the following in the text of the message:

get sea-aids retrev.idx
