Youth, Peace and Security

The historic Security Council resolution 2250 adopted in 2015 recognized the positive contribution of youth in efforts for the maintenance and promotion of peace and security. The huge potential of the youth for the success of the peace and security agenda is key to the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals. The General Assembly should underscore the need for young people to have economic opportunities, political participation, social services and security, in order to avoid the conditions that lead to radicalization and violent extremism. During the 73rd Session, the PGA will strengthen the dialogue with young people on their participation in conflict prevention and peacebuilding. In this regard, the PGA will participate in the High-Level Event “Youth2030” as well as organize a youth dialogue and thematic debates on youth, peace and security.
