Inga Kanchaveli is the Adviser on legal issues in the Office of the President of the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly. Besides legal issues, her portfolio covers counter-terrorism and prevention of violent extremism, as well as revitalization of the work of the General Assembly. She serves as a focal point for the Legal Committee (Sixth Committee), rule of law and international courts and tribunals.

A Georgian diplomat, she has worked for the United Nations Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Permanent Mission of Georgia to the United Nations. A primary focus of her portfolio has been the work of the UN General Assembly and legal and humanitarian issues, including humanitarian access and forced displacement. During her posting in New York, she was a delegate to the Sixth Committee from the 68th to 71st sessions of the General Assembly, and worked on topics related to the International Court of Justice and International Criminal Court. In 2017, she served as the Vice-President for the 27th meeting of States parties to the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

In addition, as an Elections Officer, she successfully coordinated campaigns in New York for Georgia’s candidatures to highly competitive international positions and various international bodies, including the post of Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in 2017.

She speaks Georgian, English and Russian.
