Thanavon Pamaranon is an Adviser responsible for issues related to the Administrative and Budgetary Committee (Fifth Committee) and the Financial and the Economic and Financial Committee (Second Committee), incuding the Quadrennial Comprehensive Policy Review (QCPR), operational activities, and re-positioning of the UN Development System in the Office of the President of the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly.

Prior to joining the Office, Thanavon has served more than three years at the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Thailand to the UN in New York, covering Second Committee issues and humanitarian affairs. She was the Thai chief negotiator during the Open Working Group on the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and participated as a facilitator and coordinator on issues related to disaster risk reduction and education for sustainable development. During Thailand’s chairmanship of the Group of 77 and China in 2016, she chaired the Group’s coordination during the Habitat III process, the sessions of the Second Committee, as well as the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

Thanavon is a career diplomat and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand in 2009. Before being posted in New York, she served for five years at the Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs and the Department of International Economic Affairs, where she was in charge of issues related to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

Her academic background is Regional and Comparative Studies from the School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University, and Middle Eastern Studies from Harvard University, United States of America.

Thanavon speaks English and Arabic.
