PRESS RELEASE: President of the UN General Assembly to visit Rome, Italy

UNITED NATIONS, New York, 3 July 2017 – On 4 July, the President of the United Nations General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Peter Thomson, will visit Rome, Italy, to address the opening session of the international conference “Oceans, caring for a common heritage” at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome, organized by the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development in collaboration with the Missions of France, Monaco and the Netherlands to the Holy See. President Thomson will also participate in the launch of the Global Action Program on Food Security and Nutrition for Small Island Developing States, held at the FAO Headquarters in Rome. Other speakers at the FAO launch are President Remengesau of Palau and FAO Director-General Graziano da Silva. More than 20 Ministers for agriculture are expected to attend the launch.

The President will be accompanied by Senior Legal Adviser Alejandro Sousa. Travel expenses are covered by contributions to the Trust Fund of the Office of the President of the General Assembly.
