President of the UN General Assembly to visit Hawaii

UNITED NATIONS, New York, 15 June 2017 – From 16 to 18 June, the President of the United Nations General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Peter Thomson, will visit Hawaii to meet with the Mayors of the Hawaiian Islands and the Ocean Elders group. He will also participate in the ceremonies for the welcome home of the voyaging canoe, the Hokule’a, after a three-year journey around the world navigated by the stars only. The Hokule’a, a replica Polynesian canoe returned to Hawaii from its mission, called Mālama Honua—taking care of island Earth— a voyage dedicated to building a movement for a more sustainable world.

Travel expenses for the President are covered by contributions to the Trust Fund of the Office of the President of the General Assembly.
