President of the UN General Assembly to visit Beijing

UNITED NATIONS, New York, 11 May 2017 – The President of the United Nations General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Peter Thomson, will visit Beijing this week to participate in China’s Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. While in Beijing he will meet with high-level officials of the People’s Republic of China in advance of The Ocean Conference, taking place from 5-9 June at UN Headquarters, New York.

On Friday, 12 May, President Thomson will meet with State Councilor, H.E. Mr. Yang Jeichi and Administrator of State Oceanic Administration, H.E. Mr. Wang Hong.

On Saturday, 13 May, President Thomson will meet with Vice President of China, H.E.Mr. Li Yuanchao, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, H.E. Mr. Wang Yi.

On Sunday, 14 May, President Thomson will deliver remarks and participate in the Plenary Session of the High-level Dialogue at the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.

The President will be accompanied by the Office of the President of the General Assembly’s Chef de Cabinet Mr Tomas Anker Christensen, Senior Advisor Mr Zhang Yi and Special Assistant to the Chef de Cabinet, Mr Michael McManus. Travel expenses for the President and accompanying officers are covered by contributions to the Trust Fund of the Office of the President of the General Assembly; accommodation and transportation costs in Beijing will be covered by the Government of China.
