Mogens Lykketoft met with the President of Slovakia

The President of the General Assembly, Mogens Lykketoft, met today with President of the Slovak Republic, Andrej Kiska. In their discussion they focused on ways and means of implementation the Agenda 2030 and SDGs with particular emphasis on reducing inequality within and among countries. They agreed that implementing the climate agreement must be done in a coherent and synergistic way that will require a series of clear steps at the local, national, regional and international levels.
President Kiska informed about recent Parliamentary elections in Slovakia and Manifesto of new coalition government underlining strong commitment to good governance.
With regard to the process of selection next Secretary General President Lykketoft informed about the recent informal dialogues with candidates that established a new standard of transparency and inclusivity for the selection process. President Kiska and President Lykketoft agreed that one of the biggest challenges for the new Secretary General will be to
overcome the silos and promote better integration and accountability at system-wide level as well as within UN in implementing mandates.
