Statement attributable to the President of the UN General Assembly, H.E. Mogens Lykketoft, on the Cyclone Winston that struck Fiji on last Saturday
New York, 22 February 2016 — The President of the UN General Assembly, H. E. Mr. Mogens Lykketoft, sends his deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives in the wake of Cyclone Winston, the biggest storm to hit the country of Fiji in living memory. He also wishes those who were injured a speedy recovery.
President Lykketoft praised the People and Government of Fiji for their fortitude and resilience and assured them of the support of the international community, as they begin the process of recovering from this devastating storm.
