UN General Assembly President’s travel to Europe and Morocco

 

UNITED NATIONS, New York, 15 February 2016 – The President of the UN General Assembly Mogens Lykketoft traveled to Stockholm today as part of a visit to Europe and Morocco.

Among the topics on the agenda are the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and the Climate Agreement, efforts to enhance the role and effectiveness of the United Nations in matters of peace and security, the global refugee crisis and the integration of human rights into all United Nations” engagement.

On Monday, 15 February, he will meet with Prime Minister Stefan Löfven before being received by Her Royal Highness Crown Princess and United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Advocate Victoria of Sweden. Afterwards he will participate in the Post-Davos Nordic Summit.

On Tuesday 16 February, he will be received by Her Majesty the Queen Mathilde of Belgium and he will meet with vice Primer Minister Reynders in Brussels. He will also address the European Parliament and meet the European Commission President Juncker, the High-Representative Mrs Mogherini and Vice President Timmermans.

On Wednesday 17 February, he will meet with the President of the European Parliament Schulz as well as members of the European Commission.

On Thursday 18 February, he will visit Morocco to meet with the Head of Government Mr. Benkirane, the Minister for Foreign Affairs Mezouar and other members of the Government to discuss notably preparations for the COP 22 in Marrakech and the implementation of the SDGs.

Mr. Lykketoft will be accompanied on the trip to Brussels by Chef de Cabinet H.E. Tomas Anker Christensen, and Senior Adviser Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas. He will be also joined by Political Director Kamal Amakrane in Morocco. Mr. Lykketoft’s visit to Morocco is at the invitation of the Government of Morocco. Travel and accommodation in Stockholm are covered by the organizers of the Post-Davos Nordic Summit, while travel and accommodation in Brussels are paid for by the Office of the President of the General Assembly’s Trust Fund.
