UN General Assembly President’s travel to Europe

 

UNITED NATIONS, New York, 29 November 2015 – The President of the UN General Assembly Mogens Lykketoft traveled to Paris today (Sunday 29 November) at for a weeklong official trip to Europe.

Mr. Lykketoft is in Paris for the start of the UN Climate Change Conference COP21 on Monday 30 November when he will join the UN Secretary-General, UNFCCC Executive Director Christiana Figueres and more than 100 Heads of State and Government for the beginning of the meeting. He will also chair part of the opening session. Later in the day he will conduct bilateral consultations with key parties in support of a global climate change agreement and also meet civil society leaders working on climate change and sustainable development issues.

On Tuesday 1 December, he will travel to Vienna to meet Austrian President Heinz Fischer as well as key UN leaders including Mr Yury Fedotov, Executive Director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime and Mr Li Yong, Director General of the UN Industrial Development Organization.

On Wednesday 2 December, he will participate in briefings with OECD in Paris and give an intervention at the global strategy group meeting on “Rethinking Global Economic Cooperation: Strengthening Trade and Investment”.

On Thursday 3 December, he will arrive in Copenhagen for a series meetings with UN agency heads including Ms. Grete Faremo, Executive Director of UNOPS, and UN staff.

On Monday 7 December, the President will address the opening of the High-Level segment of the COP21 and will also meet private sector and financial leaders to invite them to join government leaders at the UN General Assembly’s High-Level Thematic Debate on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals from 11-12 April next year.

Mr. Lykketoft will be accompanied on the trip to Europe by Chef de Cabinet H.E. Tomas Anker Christensen, Senior Adviser Abdelghani Merabet, Adviser Anna Cavazzini, Spokesperson Dan Thomas and Deputy Spokesperson Ulla Oestergaard. Mr. Lykketoft’s travel and accommodation is being covered by the Government of Denmark.
