Welcoming Oprah Winfrey to UN Headquarters for Special Screening of “Belief”

President of UN General Assembly invites Oprah Winfrey to UN for a  screening of her new TV series “Belief”

The President of the United Nations General Assembly, Mr. Mogens Lykketoft will tonight welcome Oprah Winfrey to UN Headquarters for a special preview screening of her new seven-night documentary series “Belief” which will premiere on Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) on October 18.

The 45-minute preview of “Belief” will be followed by a Q and A with Ms. Winfrey who executive produced the series. The President and Ms. Winfrey will speak to an invited audience of UN officials, delegates, faith leaders and supporters of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and will discuss how peace-building across faiths can create the context for achieving the 17 Goals.

The Sustainable Development Goals were unanimously adopted by 193 members states at the UN Sustainable Development Summit on 25 September, the same day that world leaders as well as Pope Francis addressed the UN General Assembly and called for peace and unity throughout the global community.

The event is being organised in collaboration with the Oprah Winfrey Network and  People+Planet Project (P+PP),  an action network for social good created to help the world achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

“Belief” is billed as a groundbreaking television event journeying to the far reaches of the world, and to places cameras have rarely been. This original series invites viewers to witness some of the world’s most fascinating spiritual journeys through the eyes of more than 30 believers.
