Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg stopped by to see the President of the UN General Assembly today on his way to take part in the Sustainable Development Summit’s interactive dialogue on Fostering Sustainable Economic Growth, Transformation and Promoting Sustainable Consumption and Production.

Mr Lykketoft thanked him for coming to speak at the UN and the two of them discussed the importance of connectivity in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Mr Zuckerberg later gave a keynote address at the United Nations Private Sector Forum, where U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and German Chancellor Angela Merkel also spoke.
“Connecting the world is one of the fundamental challenges of our generation,” Zuckerberg said. “More than four billion people don’t have a voice online.”

After lunch Mr Zuckerberg showed US frontman and activist Bono around the  “We the Peoples Hub”, a dynamic space intended to help bring world leaders together with their constituents, especially children and young people.

The hub uses virtual reality to allow the UN attendees to see Jordan’s Zaatari camp for Syrian refugees through the eyes of a little girl. And, by using an immersive video portal have the opportunity to have face-to-face conversations with residents of the camp.
