Mr. Babu Lal Jain, recently appointed Senior Advisor to the United Nations Office for Partnerships, is lending his immense experience to help achieve the MDGs. "Information technology and enabling services", he says, "will be the tools that we need to accelerate the process of reaching the MDGs. There is a great deal of economic activity and business development in the MDG sector which could be very strong growth engines for India's economic development."
Mr. Jain plans to mobilize the corporate sector to participate in the MDGs. Specifically, he is targeting India's 543 parliamentary constituencies, beginning with Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh. There, a diagnostic will be carried out to ascertain where the constituency stands on each of the MDGs. Once this exercise has been carried out in all the seats, corporations will be urged to adopt one or more MDGs in the constituencies of their choice and work towards achieving them by 2015.
Mr. Babu Lal Jain is the only Indian Senior Advisor appointed to work for achieving the MDGs. He has an extensive career in international business, consultancy and entrepreneurship. The executive positions he currently holds in the private sector include: President, World BPO Forum India; Co-Chairman, Entrepreneurship Committee of ASSOCHAM; Senior Member, Managing Committee, ASSOCHAM; Director, Biomantra; and CEO, Eaar Consultancy Services."
