Denis Gilhooly
Principal Advisor
Denis Gilhooly is currently Principal Adviser to the United
Nations Office for Partnership. He was previously Principal Adviser &
Executive Coordinator, World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS1),
Principal Adviser to the Administrator & Director, ICT for Development,
United Nations Development Programme UNDP), and Principal Adviser, Telecommunications
and Information Infrastructure, World Bank Group (WBG).
He has also worked extensively in the private sector as
Vice President, Business Development, Teledesic (the Internet-in-the Sky
venture of Bill Gates and Craig McCaw), Media & Technology Director,
The Wall Street Journal Europe/DowJones, and founding Editorial &
Publishing Director, Communications Week International and The Networked
Economy Conferences.
He is a founding commissioner of the Global Information Infrastructure
Commission (GIIC), and a founding member of the Irish Government’s
Advisory Committees on Telecommunications and ICT, the G8 Digital Opportunity
Task Force (DOT-Force) and United Nations ICT Task Force (UN ICT Task
Force). As a member of the UN Millennium Project Task Force on Science,
Innovation & Technology, he was lead author for ICT and Development
and the MDGs.
