Professor Muhammad Yunus meets H.E. Mr. Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General-Designate of the United Nations

Professor Yunus, a member of the Board of Directors of the UN Foundation, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize earlier this year for his efforts to create economic and social development from below. During his visit to New York, Secretary-General-Designate Ban Ki-moon welcomed Professor Yunus and thanked him for having dedicated his life to the empowerment of the poor, especially women, in Bangladesh. He further recognized the Grameen Bank model is now being used in numerous developing countries, many of which in the African Continent. Professor Yunus encouraged the Secretary-General-Designate to further raise the profile of microfinance under his leadership.
