7th Doha Forum for Democracy, Development and Free Trade

The 7th Doha Forum for Democracy, Development and Free Trade was opened today in Doha, Qatar, by the Emir of the State of Qatar, His Excellency Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani.

The Forum, which will continue until April 25, will serve as a framework for a dialogue aimed at promoting reforms and working out future strategies regarding the strengthening of mutual efforts to maintain security, peace and stability. United Nations Secretary-General, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, addressed the conference during the opening ceremony.

On the occasion of the conference, Mr. Amir Dossal, Executive Director of the United Nations Office for Partnerships, met with Mr. Al-Rumaihi, Qatar Foreign Minister's Assistant for Follow-Up Affairs and Chairman of the Conference Organizing Committee also to discuss a proposal for the establishment of a Centre for Partnerships in the Middle East and North Africa.

Further attending was The RT. Hon. Lord Howe of Aberavon, CH, QC, who is a member of the House of Lords and also serves as Chancellor of the Esquire.
