5 November 2009: UN Women’s Guild ‘Brides of all Nations’ Gala to Benefit Children in Need
The United Nations Women’s Guild, a non-profit (501 C3) tax exempt fundraising body of volunteers, held a 60th Anniversary charity gala this November to support a number of children’s charities in developing and developed countries.
Founded in 1948 by wives of UN staff members intent on helping children affected by the aftermath of WWII, the Guild is in fact a separate entity from the UN and entirely funded by the Guild's members and donors. From its humble beginnings, the Guild has grown to support upwards of 130 charities worldwide and boasts 43 international sister organizations.
The theme of the anniversary gala was “Brides of All Nations,” and featured a fashion show of traditional bridal wear from many UN member countries, many modeled by the spouses and daughters of ambassadors. The venue was the lush NY Botanical Gardens in the Bronx on November 5, 2009. The evening began with a cocktail hour at 6:00p.m. followed by a formal, sit-down dinner catered by renowned Abigail Kirsch which included the presentation of the national bridal dresses followed by ballroom dancing with a live band.
Designers of bridal wear and accessories, fine and costume jewelry, cosmetic and perfume makers were invited to attend.
A commemorative journal will be published and will be circulated to international chapters of the UNWG. This is a great opportunity for vendors to advertise in this brochure, and in doing so help support the work of the UN Women’s Guild.
