Who receives the money?

The UNWG supports charities which exclusively benefit children.  These charities must assist all children regardless of gender, ethnic or religious background.  Through its many activities and an all volunteer workforce, the Women's Guild can donate 95% of its income directly to children's charities.

How does the UNWG find these charities?

Most of the charities are presented by members of the Guild;  people who have personal knowledge of the charity by either having lived in that country or being from that particular country.  But this is not prerequisite.  The UNWG is always interested in learning about small basic charities.  Especially in the US - where most large and well-known charities are brought to the public attention - the UNWG is looking for small organizations where small contributions have a big impact.

How does the UNWG select charities worthy of help?

The Charity Review Committee studies all proposed charities, keeping in mind a balanced geographic distribution.  A questionnaire is sent to each charity.  If the charity fulfills all its criteria, the Committee then presents the pre-selected charities to the entire membership for the final vote.

How can the UNWG be sure that the money is spent "correctly"?

The charities report back to the Guild of how the money benefited their children.  Most often, a member of the Guild visits the charities during a private trip.  Since the Guild mostly support small charities run by volunteers, a seemingly small sum of money can make a big difference in furthering these charitable work.

 

Donations

The Guild knows the contribution it makes is very modest, not even a drop in the ocean that is needed to alleviate the misery of millions of children.  But a poet spoke for us:

We in the Guild like to believe that our efforts will buy some penny whistles for the children -- that will be our reward.

UNWG Gift Shop

The UNWG Gift Shop is the primary source of funds for the Guild. It is located in the Visitor's Concourse of the UN General Assembly Building and is open seven days a week from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm. 

Items for sale include:
Embroidered and Printed T-Shirts (children's, youth, and adult sizes), Golf
Shirts, Baseball Caps, Calendar towels, Sweatshirts, Tote Bags, Pen.
