United Nations Guided Tours



Hours

Guided Tours are conducted seven days a week, except in January and February when the United Nations is closed to the public on weekends. Tours are conducted from 9:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday to Friday; Saturday and Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Tours in English normally leave every half hour and last for approximately 45 minutes to one hour.

The building is closed on some holidays including Thanksgiving Day (usually fourth Thursday in November), Christmas Day, and New Year's Day. A limited schedule may be in effect during the general debate of the General Assembly (mid-September to mid-October), between Christmas and New Year, and during special conferences and events.

Directions

The United Nations Headquarters in New York is located on First Avenue between 42nd Street and 48th Street.

The Visitors' Entrance is located on First Avenue at 46th Street. As the United Nations does not offer parking facilities, it is suggested that public transportation be used.

Subway: number 4,5,6 or 7 trains to Grand Central Station; walk on 42nd Street to First Avenue.

Buses: M15, M27, M42, or M104.

One complimentary ticket is issued for the first 15 tickets purchased and one free for every 20 tickets thereafter.

 

Age Limit

For safety reasons, children under age 5 are not admitted on tour.

Languages

Tours in English are available every day and leave approximately every 30 minutes. Tours are also conducted in other languages including Arabic, Croatian, Danish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish.

The availability of language tours changes every day. Please call (212) 963-7539 on the day you plan to visit to confirm that the language you need is offered on that day. Language tours are scheduled for a specific time, although, small time variations may occur.

 

People with Disabilities

The United Nations Headquarters in New York is accessible to persons with disabilities. The United Nations provides wheelchairs for those visitors who require them during the tour.

 

Exhibits

Exhibits on UN themes are on display in the Visitors' Lobby of the General Assembly Building from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week from March through December.

During January and February the exhibits are open for viewing from Monday through Friday only. Admission is free.
