53/239. United Nations reform: measures and proposals; and strengthening of the United Nations system
The General Assembly,
Recalling its resolution 53/202 of 17 December 1998, by which it decided, inter alia, to designate the fifty-fifth session of the General Assembly "The Millennium Assembly of the United Nations" and to convene, as an integral part of the Millennium Assembly of the United Nations, a Millennium Summit of the United Nations for a limited number of days on dates to be decided by the General Assembly at its resumed fifty-third session,
Recalling also its resolution 53/224 of 7 April 1999, by which it decided, inter alia, that the fifty-fourth session of the General Assembly would open on Tuesday, 14 September 1999,
Mindful that a decision on the duration of the Millennium Summit is predicated on its format and contents,
1. Decides that the fifty-fourth session of the General Assembly shall close on Tuesday, 5 September 2000, in the morning, and that the fifty-fifth session of the General Assembly shall open on Tuesday, 5 September 2000, in the afternoon;
2. Also decides that the Millennium Summit shall begin on Wednesday, 6 September 2000.
