Finland National Preparations

In preparation for the World Summit on Sustainable Development, the Government of Finland has established a National Preparatory Committee under the Finland National Council for Sustainable Development (FNCSD). The members of the Committee include representatives from both national and local administration, NGOs, private sector and research institutes.

IIn addition, Finland is undertaking a national review and assessment of progress in the implementation of Agenda 21. The Finnish government is also launching two initiatives proposed by the Summit Secretariat to ensure greater participation of all partners: The FNCSD is also running an evaluation process on the implementation of Finnish Government's Programme for Sustainable Development (1998) within different fields of administration and other organizations. The results of this evaluation are expected to be available in the beginning of 2002.
