    The Non-Governmental Liaison Service ( NGLS )is not a membership organization, but works with the NGO community on an informal basis.  It has no procedures for the official registration or recognition of NGOs with the UN system.

      The United Nations Non-Governmental Liaison Service (UN-NGLS)

  • Provides NGOs with advice, expertise and support services on the development initiatives and activities of the UN system.
  • Works with NGOs engaged in development and related issues as part of the UN effort to strengthen dialogue and win public support for economic and social development.
  • Provides information, advice, guidance and various forms of support to the UN system and to NGOs wishing to be more involved with the UN system's deliberations. 
INFORMATION OUTREACH :
  • Publications

  • These include the publication of a newsletter, briefing papers, various how-to books, and meeting reports, as well as compiling and publishing NGO work on-key UN themes from time to time; maintaining electronic and hard-copy mailing lists on various issues
  • Activities which include orientations, briefings, and consultations with-the NGO community (such as jointly with UNCTAD)
  • Involvement in the NGO dimension of follow-up to major UN conferences, such as with The United Nations Conference on Environment and Development ( UNCED ) - SEE " Implementing Agenda 21"
