OLA - THE OFFICE OF LEGAL AFFAIRS The Office of Legal Affairs of the United Nations was established in 1946. OLA provides legal advice to the Secretary-General and acts on his behalf in legal matters. The OLA mission is to provide a unified central legal service for the United Nations Secretariat and the principal and other organs of the United Nations. In 1967, the International Trade Law Branch was established. The Office for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea was integrated into OLA in 1992.
