UN-HABITAT
UN-HABITAT
Established in 1978 and
based at Nairobi, Kenya, the United Nations Human
Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) is the lead agency
within the UN system for coordinating activities in
the field of human settlements.
The Habitat Agenda
implements the Istanbul Declaration of the second
United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (HABITAT
II), June 1996, in which Governments committed themselves
to the goals of adequate shelter for all and sustainable
urban development.
UN
agencies are combining efforts with UN-HABITAT on
a
Global Urban Observatory and Statistics to monitor
implementation of the Habitat agenda.
