ELECTORAL ASSISTANCE DIVISION


           The Electoral Assistance Division, in the Department of Political Affairs ( DPA ), was established in April 1992 to coordinate the activities of the United Nations system in the field of electoral assistance. 
          Electoral assistance has included advancing the principle of the self-determination of peoples through the development of self-government and decolonization. In the modern period, it has entailed establishing and advancing the principles of democracy and political rights.
