           The Department for Disarmament Affairs (DDA), of the United Nations is the UN focal point for questions on Disarmament. Its several branches focus on Practical Disarmament Measures and on aspects of Disarmament, such as Conventional Weapons (including Small Arms and Light Weapons) and Weapons of Mass Destruction.
          The Department provides the general public with Information on Disarmament  The DDA fosters the development of Disarmament Norms and it promotes Openness and Transparency in: Military Matters, Verification, and in Confidence-building Measures.

"
    At each new session of the General Assembly the First Committee handles issues of Disarmament and International Peace & Security; as 190+ nations seek, where possible, to harmonize the approaches of UN Member States. The First Committee drafts resolutions and forwards these to the Plenary Meetings of the General Assembly for final consideration and adoption.

DISARMAMENT COMMISSION

UNDC - Disarmament Commission

     This subsidiary organ of the General Assembly was with the function of considering and making recommendations on various problems in the field of Disarmament and of following up on the relevant decisions and recommendations of the First
General Assembly special session on Disarmament (1978). It reports annually to the General Assembly.
CONFERENCE ON DISARMAMENT-
UNCD - The Conference on Disarmament - UNCD
    With 66 Members, UNCD is the single multilateral disarmament negotiating forum of the international community

Ad Hoc Committee on Terrorism

The General Assembly created this Committee in 1996 to develop a Legal framework for dealing with International Terrorism

THE SECRETARY-GENERAL'S ADVISORY BOARD ON DISARMAMENT MATTERS

     This Board of Trustees of UNIDIR
advises the Secretary-General on arms limitation and Disarmament; including on the studies and research of the United Nations system.
      The agenda of the Board is based on requests from the Secretary-General and on its own recommendations. The Advisory Board submits a private report of its two yearly sessions to the Secretary-General.   The Secretary-General reports annually to the General Assembly on the activities of the Advisory Board

blue arrowOverview of th Treaty on the Non-proliferation of Nuclear Weapons   CTBTO - Preparatory Commission for : A COMPREHENSIVE NUCLEAR-TEST-BAN  TREATY ORGANIZATION
      In 1996, The Preparatory Commission was established to prepare for the Nuclear Test-ban Treaty's Entry into force. This occurs 180 days after the Treaty has been ratified by the 44 States listed in its Annex 2.

The first conference after ratification of the Treaty, will replace the Preparatory Commission with the Commission
