INDICTMENT:
GORAN
JELISIC PLEADS GUILTY TO THE MAJORITY OF THE CHARGES IN THE SECOND AMENDED INDICTMENT
Today, during
his further initial appearance, Goran Jelisic pleaded guilty to 31 out of 32
counts against him in a second amended indictment, confirmed on 19 October 1998.
On 9 September
1998, the Prosecution, the Defence Counsel and the accused jointly submitted
to Trial Chamber I a confidential document entitled "Agreed factual
basis for guilty pleas to be entered by Goran Jelisic".
The Trial Chamber
consists of Judge Claude Jorda, presiding, Judge Fouad Riad and Judge Almiro
Rodrigues.
Goran Jelisic
pleaded guilty to 15 counts of Crimes against humanity and 16 counts
of Violations of the law or customs of war. These are related to 12 killings,
four beatings and one count of plunder of private property in the Brcko area
in 1992. The indictment also includes one count of Genocide, to which he pleaded
not guilty.
At the end
of the hearing, the Trial Chamber decided that sentencing would take place after
the trial for Genocide. No date has been set for the beginning of the trial.
