The Tribunal makes public today the report of the inquiry panel concerning the circumstances surrounding the death of Milan Babic in the Tribunal’s Detention Unit on 5 March 2006. The report indicates that there was no criminal conduct in the death of Milan Babic.

The inquiry, headed by Tribunal's Vice-President, Judge Kevin Parker, was ordered on 6 March 2006 by Tribunal President, Judge Fausto Pocar.

Milan Babic was in The Hague giving testimony in the Milan Martic case. He was serving a sentence of 13 years’ imprisonment for crimes against Croats and other non-Serb civilian population in the Krajina region of north-eastern Croatia in 1991. He pleaded guilty to one count of crimes against humanity on 27 January 2004 and was sentenced by the Trial Chamber on 29 June 2004. The sentence was confirmed by the Appeals Chamber on 18 July 2005.
