JUDGE INÉS MÓNICA WEINBERG DE ROCA SWORN IN AS AN APPEALS JUDGE FOR THE ICTY AND ICTR
Today, Tuesday 17 June 2003, Judge Inés Mónica Weinberg de Roca (Argentina) was sworn in as a Judge of the Appeals Chambers of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda.
BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Judge Inés M. Weinberg de Roca was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina on 16 December 1948.
She studied law at the Universities of Buenos Aires and La Plata, Argentina, and at the Max-Planck-Institut in Hamburg, Germany. She practiced as a lawyer until she was appointed as a Judge of the National Civil Court in Buenos Aires from 1993 to 2000 and of the Administrative Court of Appeals of the same city from 2000 to 2003.
Judge Weinberg served as advisor on international law to the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2000 to 2003. She represented Argentina at various diplomatic conferences and was Argentina’s representative to the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT) until 2003.
Judge Weinberg is a professor of International Law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Buenos Aires and at the Universidad Argentina de la Empresa. She is also a visiting professor and/or lecturer at a number of universities around the world and has served as a lecturer, rapporteur and speaker in numerous conferences, congresses, debates and seminars. She is the author of a number of books and the editor of a book on the Convention on the Rights of the Child. She has written more than 70 articles on legal topics.
She was elected as a Judge of the ICTR on 31 January 2003 and was designated as a member of the Appeals Chamber of the ICTY and ICTR on 4 June 2003.
