Registry and Chambers:

Jim Landale, Spokesman for Registry and Chambers, made the following statement:

Good afternoon,

First, I would like to share with you some statistics that I have received regarding the achievements of the Appeals Chamber in 2004.

During the year, the Appeals Chamber completed 53 appeals. This included six appeals from judgement (at the ICTY those being: Vasiljevic, Krstic, Blaskic and Kordic & Cerkez), one review (Kupreskic) and 47 interlocutory appeals (20 for the ICTY and 27 for the ICTR). Additionally, the Appeals Chamber issued 345 pre-appeal decisions and orders.

As of today, the Appeals Chamber has 21 pending appeals, including 18 from judgements (11 for the ICTY and 7 for the ICTR), one review and two interlocutory appeals.

I am also pleased to note that yesterday the two new ad litem Judges were sworn in at the ICTY. Judge Gyorgy Szenasi of Hungary will sit on the Halilovic trial and Judge Claude Hanoteau of France will sit on the Krajisnik trial.

With regard to the Halilovic case, the trial will start on Monday at 9 a.m. in Courtroom III, with the Prosecution’s opening statement. There is due to be a further pre-trial conference tomorrow, starting at 1 p.m. in Courtroom III.

I can also confirm that the Judgement in The Prosecutor v. Pavle Strugar will be rendered by Trial Chamber II this Monday 31 January 2005 at 12 p.m. in Courtroom I.

There will be status conferences in The Prosecutor v.Vojislav Seselj this Monday 31 January at 9 a.m. in Courtroom I; in The Prosecutor v. Radoslav Brdjanin on Thursday 3 February at 3 p.m. in Courtroom II, and in The Prosecutor v. Cermak and Markac on Friday 4 February at 2.30 p.m. also in Courtroom II. The two accused are not required to be present for that last one.
