ICTY Weekly Press Briefing Registry and Chambers: Jim Landale, Spokesman for Registry and Chambers, made the following statement: Good afternoon, The Defence Case in the Milosevic trial is now scheduled to commence this Wednesday 14 July at 9 a.m. in Courtroom I, subject to the health of the accused. The trial is scheduled to run on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of next week from 9 to 1.45 p.m. The following week it will run from Monday 19 July to Wednesday 21 July at the same times. The trial will then be adjourned until Tuesday 31 August 2004. We will keep you informed of any changes to that schedule. The period for media to accredit themselves for the start of the Milosevic Defence Case starts at 1 p.m. this afternoon and comes to an end at 3 p.m. on Monday 12 July. The list of journalists granted accreditation will be posted on our website at around 5.30 p.m. on Monday, so those of you who are granted a place in the public gallery can pick up tickets at the advertised times. I would make a plea for those who can to pick up their tickets on Tuesday to do so and avoid a last minute rush on Wednesday morning. As you all should also be aware, this afternoon, the initial appearance for Mirko Norac will be held at 4 p.m. in Courtroom I. All media are welcome to attend. On behalf of the Tribunal’s Outreach Programme: Chambers and OTP representatives of the ICTY took part in the third and final session of the first group of seminars for Croatian Judges and Prosecutors involved in war crimes cases, held near Zagreb on Friday and Saturday, 2 and 3 July. The second group of sessions is scheduled to run between September and October. The programme was organised at the initiative of the Croatian Ministry of Justice and has been supported by ICTY Outreach, in accordance with the Tribunal's mandate to assist in strengthening the capacity of local judiciaries to handle war crimes cases. At the last session, the participants conducted a mock trial based on a hypothetical factual scenario, thus putting into practice many of the legal concepts discussed in the first two sessions. A principal aim of the seminars is to compare the Croatian legal system to the rules that apply in international law and at the ICTY, so as to better identify all the relevant issues for conducting war crimes trials in Croatia, whether those trials are brought before local courts as a result of local investigations, or on the basis of information and evidentiary materials provided by the ICTY OTP to the Croatian State Prosecutors’ Office, or as a result of the possible transfer of ICTY cases involving intermediary and lower level accused in accordance with Rule 11 bis of the Tribunal’s Rules of Procedure and Evidence. In terms of the remainder of the court schedule: There will be a status conference in The Prosecutor v. Mitar Rasevic tomorrow, Friday 9 July at 9 a.m in Courtroom II. There will be a status conference in The Prosecutor v. Radovan Stankovic on 15 July at 3 p.m. in Courtroom II. Finally, I understand that the ADC will give a briefing after this. Questions: Asked for an update on Mirko Norac’s travel to The Hague, Landale declined to comment, but said he would confirm once Norac was in the Tribunal’s custody. A question was asked whether there had been any news regarding the request made by the Appeals Chamber in the Krstic case to the Prosecution to investigate their disclosure practice in light of the allegations of misconduct made against them.
