Hassan Ngeze was born in 1961 in the commune of Rubavu, Gisenyi Prefecture.At the time of the events refered to in the indictment Hassan Ngeze was Editor in Chief of the journal known as, and published in the name of KANGURA.He was arrested in Kenya on 18.7.1997 and transfered to the Tribunal=s detention facilities on the same day pursuant to an order of arrest and provisional detention issued by the Tribunal on 16.7.1997.

The indictment was filed by the Prosecutor on 1.10.1997 and the indictment was confirmed by Judge Lennart Aspegren on 3.10.1997.The initial appearance was held on 20.11.1997 by trial Chamber 1 and the accused entered a plea of not guilty to all counts.
