Instructions for Downloading and Installing RealAudio

In order to listen to the audio programming at the UN Website, you will need to download and install the free RealPlayer. Follow the following steps:

  1. Click on the RealPlayer link in any of the audio pages. This will lead you to the download area for the RealPlayer which is available without charge.
  2. Choose the required fields by clicking on the down arrows and highlighting the appropriate fields, e.g. Most recent version (leave as is); Choose Windows 95 or Windows 3.1 or as appropriate; Choose English; Choose Pentium, 486 or Macintosh as appropriate; Choose the speed of your modem, if unsure choose 28.8 modem;
  3. Next fill in your name and e-mail address;
  4. Then click on the DOWNLOAD NOW button
  5. Click on a location near you to begin downloading (Size: 1.33 MB):
  6. When prompted, choose Save to Disk and speciiy the directory where you want the RealPlayer 5.0 installation program to be saved. Note the directory location.
  7. Locate and launch the file you downloaded by exploring your hard drive or choosing the Run option in the Start menu. (The file is where your Web browser saved it.) This will begin the RealPlayer setup process. If you are uncertain of the file name, see the list below. Double-click the downloaded file to begin the RealPlayer installation. Follow the instructions in each of the installer screens.

  8. The RealPlayer will be installed in the C:\RealPlayer directory, unless you specify otherwise. The installation also installs several system files into the C:\Windows\System directory of your hard drive. When the installation is complete, a shortcut for the RealPlayer is added to the Windows 95 or Windows NT desktop. A program icon is added in Windows 3.lx.
  9. Next time you attempt to play an audio file, the RealPlayer starts automatically.
