disaster will not be forgotten"

The Commemoration of the
18th Anniversary of the Chernobyl Accident
The world’s single worst nuclear accident, the tragedy at the
Chernobyl power plant, occurred 18 years ago. The impact on
communities in Belarus, the Russian Federation and Ukraine, however,
remains severe today. To draw attention to the continuing needs of
people in the affected areas, United Nations Office for the
Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), United Nations Development
Programme (UNDP) and the governments of the three affected countries
held a special commemorative ceremony on Chernobyl.
