Global Sustainability Panel Presents UN Secretary-General with Final Report Recommendations for "A Future Worth Choosing"

In August 2010, Secretary-General Ban-Ki-moon launched the High-Level Panel for Global
Sustainability. The Panel, composed of 22 members drawn from government, the private sector
and civil society, served in an expert capacity to provide advice to the Secretary-General.
Specifically, the Panel was asked to reflect on and formulate a new vision for sustainable growth
and prosperity, along with mechanisms for achieving it.The Panel was co-chaired by Finnish
President Tarja Halonen and South African President Jacob Zuma.
In its final report, "Resilient People, Resilient Planet: A Future Worth Choosing," the Panel
provides 56 recommendations to put sustainable development into practice so as to strengthen
inclusive growth, enhance social equity, and preserve the planet.
The Panel Co-chairs present the report to the Secretary-General during a press conference on
the concluding day of the African Union Summit. President Zuma presents the report to the
Secretary-General in person and President Halonen provides her remarks via video. The press
conference includes welcoming remarks from Mr. Abdoulie Janneh, Executive Secretary of
the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, and be moderated by Mr. Eduardo del
Buey, the Secretary-General's deputy spokesperson.
