NOTE ATTRIBUTABLE TO THE SPOKESPERSON OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY

The President of the General Assembly, HE Dr Ali Abdusalam Treki, met with a delegation from the Foreign Affairs, Defense and Military forces Committee of the French Senate. The delegation was led by Mr. Josselin de Rohan, President of the Committee. Other members of the delegation included Messrs. Robert Hue, Vice Chairman; Daniel Reiner, Committee Member; and Etienne Sallenave, Counselor at the commission of the Committee. The President of the General Assembly and the French delegation discussed important issues on the agenda of the sixty-fourth Session of the General Assembly, including the MDG Summit in 2010, development, climate change, Dialogue among Civilizations, the financial and economic crisis and peace and security in Africa and in the Middle East.
Dr. Treki also had a meeting with the President of the Governing Council of UN-HABITAT, Hon. Clifford Everald Warmington. They discussed the role UN-HABITAT plays on the road to achieve the MDGs, in particular in light of the upcoming MDG Summit in 2010.
Later on the same day HE Mr. Bruno Eduardo Rodríguez Parrilla, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Cuba paid a courtesy visit to President Treki. They discussed important issues on the agenda of the sixty-fourth Session of the General Assembly. The Cuban Foreign Minister, who was accompanied by the Deputy Foreign Minister, extended an invitation to President Treki to visit Cuba.
