NOTE ATTRIBUTABLE TO THE SPOKESPERSON OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY

H.E. Dr. Ali Abdussalam Treki, President of the General Assembly concluded today a three-day official visit to Cuba.
During his visit he met with H.E. Mr. José Ramón Machado Ventura, First Vice-President of the Council of State and Council of Ministers.
The Vice-President expressed Cuba’s support to the work of the President of the General Assembly, specially regarding to the reform process and the need to strengthen the role and authority of the General Assembly. They underlined the importance of dialogue and cooperation in addressing bilateral issues.
President Treki also met with H.E. Mr. Bruno Eduardo Rodríguez Parrilla, Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs. Dr. Treki was briefed on the Cuban efforts to achieve the Millennium Development Goals and Cuba’s concerns on the burden that the financial and economic crisis imposes on the developing countries. President Treki underlined the importance of South South cooperation. The situation in the Middle East was also discussed.
President Treki later met with the President of the National Assembly H.E. Mr. Ricardo Alarcon, and the Minister for Foreign Trade and Investment, H.E. Mr. Rodrigo Malmierca
Today, 29 June, President Treki traveled to Guayaquil, for an official visit to Ecuador.
