Follow-up to the report of the United Nations Fact-Finding Mission on the Gaza Conflict (II)

The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Dr. Ali Abdussalam Treki, presided over a plenary meeting of the General Assembly on the Follow-up to the report of the United Nations Fact-Finding Mission on the Gaza Conflict (II). The draft resolution introduced by Qatar was adopted with 98 votes in favor; 7 against; and 31 abstentions, as resolution 64/254.

1st meeting of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Revitalization of the General Assembly

The President of the General Assembly opened the 1st meeting of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Revitalization of the General Assembly for the sixty-fourth session. In his statement, Dr. Treki stressed that “Member States are committed to engage in a meaningful effort to bolster the work of the General Assembly, which is the chief deliberative, policymaking and representative organ of the United Nations.” He added that “revitalization of the General Assembly is primarily a political issue, and in order to achieve our objectives, all Member States will be required to muster the necessary political will to bring about the necessary changes.”

President Treki meets with the First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs of the State Duma

The President of the General Assembly met with Mr. Leonid E. Slutsky, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs of the State Duma (Lower Chamber of Parliament) of the Russian Federation. They discussed issues of mutual interest relating to the agenda of the General Assembly and regional and international situation.

President Treki meets with the SESRIC Director General

President Treki met with Dr. Savaş Alpay, Director General of the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), a subsidiary organ of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC).
