On meeting the Minister of Planning and Cooperation of Guinea

United Nations General Assembly President Srgjan Kerim met today with H.E. Djigui Camara, the Minister of Planning and Cooperation of Guinea. The Minister expressed his Government’s appreciation for the strong leadership role of the President in taking on key development issues during the current General Assembly session and for the special attention focused on Africa’s development needs. He stressed the importance of advancing on the commitments made to achieve the Millennium Development Goals and in this regard stressed the need for exploring innovative ways of resource mobilization to secure sustainable development financing.

The President noted that the current session of the Assembly had a strong development agenda with climate change, the Millennium Development Goals and Financing for Development being among the main priority issues as well as recently focusing on the global food and energy crisis. He drew attention to the preparations for the 22 September high-level meeting of the General Assembly on African development and the 25 September leader’s summit on MDGs organized jointly by the General Assembly President and the Secretary-General as meetings that provide an important opportunity to advance on Africa’s development needs. He also briefed the Minister on the current work in preparation for reviewing the Monterrey Consensus on Financing for Development to be held in Doha, Qatar later this year.
