STATEMENT ATTRIBUTABLE TO THE SPOKESPERSON
OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY
President of the General Assembly, Srgjan Kerim met today with H.E. Felipe Perez Roque, the Foreign Minister of Cuba. The President welcomed the signing of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the International Covenant on Economic Social and Cultural Rights by the Foreign Minister of Cuba.
The two also briefly reviewed the main priority issues of the 62nd Session of the General Assembly, including climate change, financing for development, the Millennium Development Goals and counter-terrorism.
The Foreign Minister expressed Cuba’s full support for the main objectives of the session and for the forthcoming important events convened by the President, including the upcoming thematic debate in early April on three of the Millennium Development Goals.
The President of the General Assembly thanked the Foreign Minister for his country’s support of the work of the General Assembly and for Cuba’s active role in the United Nations especially in its current capacity as the chair of the Non-Aligned Movement.
