JAY NAIDOO – Chairman of the Development Bank of Southern Africa
Since 2000 Mr. Naidoo has been the Chairman of the Development Bank of Southern Africa, a key development financial institution driving the expansion of social and economic infrastructure in the Southern African sub-region.
Mr. Naidoo is also the Chairman of the Global Alliance to Improve Nutrition (GAIN), an organization focusing on food security across the developing world. He is also Chairman of J&J Group, a holding company that has interests in IT, financial services, industry and real estate.
Mr. Naidoo was the Minister of the State in the Office of President Nelson Mandela of South Africa between 1994 and 1996. In 1996 he was appointed Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Broadcasting. From 1994 to 1999 he served as a Member of Parliament representing the African National Congress.
Since 1998 Mr. Naidoo has been the Chairman of African Telecoms Development Steering Committee, and since 2007 he has been the Chairman of International Telecommunications Union (ITU).
Earlier in his career, Mr. Naidoo was an organizer with the Federation of South African Trade Unions (FOSATU). In 1982 he was appointed the General-Secretary for Sweet, Food and Allied Workers Union (SFAWU). From 1985 to 1993 he served as the first General-Secretary for Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU).
