Hervé Le Treut is senior researcher CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, France) and professor at Ecole Polytechnique. He is the director of LMD (Laboratory of Dynamical Meteorology , a laboratory under the sponsorship of CNRS, Ecole Polytechnique, Ecole Normale Supérieure and University of Paris 6).
Hervé Le Treut has studied physics at Ecole Normale Supérieure, and has specialized very early in model studies of the climate system, and climate model development. He holds a PhD from Paris University. He is author or co-author of about 80 refereed publications in international journals on the diagnostic and modelling of cloud processes, ocean/atmosphere interactions, variability of the past climates, the role of anthropogenic forcings on climate, the interactions between the physical climate and biochemical processes, or the use of satellite date. Hervé Le Treut has been participating to the last two IPCC reports as Lead Author and Coordinating Lead Author respectively. He is a member of the Joint Scientific Committee of the World Climate Reasearch Programme.
Hervé Le Treut has been actively involved in the debates concerning Climate Change in France, and has written a few books on the subject. He his a member of the French Academy of Sciences.
