President
Kavan discusses UN reform with Foreign Minister Kukan
of Slovakia
19 September - President Jan Kavan assured F.M. Eduard
Kukan that revitalization of the work of the UN General
Assembly is one of his top priorities. Very important,
in this context, is the Report of the UN Secretary-General
on Reform. President Kavan indicated he also intends
to consider some reform plans outlined by 55th GA
President Harri Holkeri. President Kavan told F.M.
Kukan that he plans to organize consultations with
the presidents of the Security Council and ECOSOC,
and with the Secretary-General and the Bretton Woods
institutions on reform. F.M. Kukan assured President
Kavan of Slovak support for UN Security Council reform.
