Kavan discusses Middle East issues with Shimon Peres, Foreign
Minister of Israel

were the latest events concerning Iraq. President Kavan
acknowledged the pressure put on Iraq by Arab countries
resulting in the return of UN inspectors. Foreign Minister
Peres informed President Kavan of Israel's skepticism about
the declaration and its disbelief in the Hussein regime's
promises. As for the possibility of creating an independent
Palestinian state, Mr. Kavan expressed his support for the
road map proposed by the European Union.
