President
Kavan Meets Foreign Minister Abu Bakr al-Qurbi of Yemen
16 September - F.M. Al Qurbi underlined to President Kavan
the importance of President Bush's speech in the UN General
Assembly and the US decision to take the Iraq question to
the UN Security Council. Both parties appreciated the League
of Arab States position, that Saddam Hussein should fulfill
UN resolutions, and expressed their hope that Iraq will
enable unconditional return of UN inspectors. F.M.Al Qurbi
stressed that a war would have catastrophic results not
only for the whole region, but would also have a negative
impact on the world. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict and
efforts of the Quartet were also discussed.
