Meeting with Yoriko Kawaguchi, Foreign Minister of Japan
15 September - Discussions between President Kavan and F.M. Kawaguchi centered on Iraq and UN reform. Japan supports adherence to UN resolutions concerning Iraq and the situation is a test of UN legitimacy. UN reform requires a new impetus so that the nine-year-old problem could be moved forward. President Kavan appreciated activities of Japan in the field of conflict prevention and underlined that this approach corresponds to his own priorities.
