Meeting with Vietnamese Foreign Minister Nguyen Dy Nien
15 September - F.M. Nguyen Dy Nien informed President Kavan about the Vietnamese experience in the UN and underlined the positive work of UNDP in Vietnam. Mr. Kavan informed him about the priorities of the Czech Republic during his presidency, especially in the effectiveness and transparency of the work of the Assembly and the active follow-up to the Monterrey and Johannesburg conferences. In the case of Iraq, F.M. Nguyen said that Vietnam, as well as other countries of Southeast Asia, would prefer a solution that would avoid war. He said that Iraq has to comply with UN resolutions.
